One of a Kind Proposal

November 18, 2014

The One of a Kind Show is where I’m fortunate to meet many of my Canadian diamond engagement ring couples for the first time. Designing together and choosing the perfect diamond is a once in a lifetime experience where we become friends and I love to hear what happens after the ring leaves the studio, so I’ve asked if I can post! Here is the first of what I hope to be many stories of romantic proposals and if you have a unique story to share don’t be shy. Write to shelly.

Once upon a time, there was a boy who met a girl he could not forget. And while you may be wondering what Bill Murray has to do with this story, it actually begins many years ago.

Me, Brandon, and Bill Murray—A One of a Kind proposal

By Tamara

Brandon and I went to middle school together. He was quiet and sweet, whereas I was loud and constantly talking. We were 12 years old and word spread quickly that he had a crush on me. This led to a short romance where he avoided me completely but we remained friends throughout school.

In Grade 9, my family moved overseas but 14 years later I ended up back in Toronto. Out of the blue, I got a message on Twitter from Brandon asking if I was his old school friend from King City and I quickly responded that it was indeed me. Tweets led to texts and then phone calls and romance blossomed once again!

Out for dinner one night, we ended up at our favourite restaurant and just as we began our meal, Brandon looked up and saw the Bill Murray who stars in my favourite movie — Lost in Translation — He was hilarious and graciously posed for a picture with us.  I was beside myself at meeting him and he didn’t disappoint. I thought the night couldn’t get any better.

Brandon and I were so excited, and talked about our night all the way home. After getting ready for bed, I walked into our living room where Brandon was sitting on the couch, and I could tell something was up by the way he was looking at me.

“Don’t worry,” I said to him. “I’d never leave you for Bill Murray.” to which Brandon responded, “That’s good to hear because I have a question for you.” and getting down on one knee, he asked me to marry him!

He said he'd bought the engagement ring months ago, but couldn’t settle on the perfect way to propose. It wasn’t until that night and seeing how happy I was that he decided this was the moment to pop the question. Brandon is the kind of man who loves making others happy. He knew proposing would make a wonderful night absolutely perfect.

I have to admit I’ve dropped many a hint about the kind of engagement ring I wanted, even showing him a few on your website that I had seen at the One of a Kind Show, just in case he was thinking about making a move. Brandon never really dropped any hints of his own, instead making mental notes about the rings I showed him.

Ultimately, his visit to your studio really struck him. The experience was personable; the one-on-one interaction really helped guide him to picking out a Canadian diamond that would make a statement and symbolize how special our connection is.

My ring is classic, but unique, not something I’d see many other women wearing, which makes it all the more special. When I opened the box, I was ecstatic! My story with Brandon, the perfect ring, and Bill Murray, all ended up being “a dream come true!”  Thank you for helping make our engagement incredibly special. I love my ring.  I’ve even had strangers tell me how beautiful it is!

Diamonds with a Story

June 5, 2013

Just got back to the studio from a fantastic trip to Las Vegas where I was shown “The Royal” treatment as featured Canadian diamond designer in Rio Tinto's "Diamonds with a Story" campaign at the world’s most prestigious jewellery industry show JCK/Luxury at Mandalay Bay. Rio Tinto is a mega natural resource corporation who has stakes in many diamond mines including Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada and Argyle Mine in Australia. The Royals collection, displayed at the show is inspired by the royal wedding of William and Kate. The Royals consists of Round, Princess and Marquis Canadian Diamond centre stone engagement rings that uniquely fit with bands and Achievement Rings that interlock to create many fabulous sparkly stacks. I’ve spent many years behind the counter helping couples choose the perfect style and the versatility of these rings makes it so much fun and there is always a great reaction from my clients. There are literally endless variations to guarantee a look all your own.

Start of Something Big

Modern on it’s own or the centre-piece of several diamond stacking rings or just beside a simple wedding band. The exposed culet (the point at bottom of the diamond) reveals the delicate allure capturing a spectrum of light in the hardest rock on earth.  Mix with rose, yellow or white gold diamond bands to make a fabulous stop-dead-in-your-tracks statement. Try matching with The Royals Bands or Achievement Rings.

Altruistic by Nature

…Besides her Royals Collection, Purdy is noted for her own personal favourite designs: “Achievement Rings.”

“I designed and developed these rings for women who used to come to see my jewellery at shows and look at my signature wedding bands and engagement rings and say, ‘When I find a man, I’m coming back here to get a ring,’” she says. “So I got to thinking that these women were accomplished and deserved a ring on their own terms. Jewellery is very emotional and symbolizes a lot of things for us, so the idea of having an achievement ring to stand as a trophy was my inspiration for these. You can stack these rings as precious trophies to celebrate your own accomplishments. I love that collection.”

Pop the Champaigne!

January 12, 2012

What a fantastic day here at the studio! Joscelyn Longo, our Maximum Brilliance Canadian Diamond Ring Winner, was all smiles as we presented her with the grand prize. The Royal Brilliance Ring, from the Royals Collection, is inspired by Prince William and Kate’s Wedding.  With trembling hands the ring was taken from the box, then slipped perfectly onto her finger! Robert Cheszes, the president of Maximum Brilliance Canadian Diamonds, and Shrenik Haji, the director, were here to officiate the ceremony and join in a champagne toast to the winner. Thank you to more than 4000 individuals who entered, making this contest such a success, and congratulations to our beautiful and deserving winner! Shine on Joscelyn!

Back to School Bling

August 30, 2011

Kids are wonderful.

Despite the sleepless nights with a hungry baby, the nagging to pick up shoes and the new challenges that come with every age, children always manage to somehow steal our hearts and wriggle their way back into our good graces with a smile. Well, here are three more reasons to love them: Personalized gold script family bands with diamonds! Diamonds! And MORE DIAMONDS!

Treat yourself with a little back-to-school bling in honour of the nut-free lunch-making, knapsack-packing and play-date-scheduling… Because who deserves it more?
