Shelly Purdy is a Toronto based jewellery designer who brands unmistakable style with outstanding quality using diamonds and precious stones with gold, platinum and sterling. Her work is uniquely Canadian and has been nationally recognized, winning the De Beers Diamonds Today Award. Most recently, Shelly has received national press coverage for her Royal’s Collection inspired by William and Kate’s Royal Wedding. The jewellery features symbols from the British Monarchy using Canadian Diamonds in crown settings. Her Royal Marquis Ring from this collection is a finalist in Excellence in Design jewellery competition by Canadian Jeweller Magazine 2011.
Shelly has been featured in the Globe and Mail Report on Business, Canadian Diamond Magazine cover story, Fashion Magazine, Elle Canada, Toronto Life, Nuvo Magazine, Canadian Jewellers Magazine, Jewellery Business Magazine, National Post, as well as Canada AM, Breakfast Television, Workforce and Fashion by Jury. In 2001 Shelly was invited to Canada’s first diamond mine in the NWT and has since been recognized in the Canadian Diamond industry as a prominent supporter described as “the Canadian Diamond Diplomat” in a cover story by Canadian Diamonds Magazine. “An unforgettable trip to the Ekati Diamond Mine in the NWT changed the course of my career and Canadian Diamonds have since become my signature. The story of the thrilling treasure hunt as Canadian geologists combed the Tundra in hopes of striking diamonds lit my imagination and lead to working with many of the pioneers in this emerging industry”
Shelly is on the board of advisors for George Brown College and donated and juried Best in Show Award for the graduating class. She was chosen George Brown College convocation speaker for the year 2003, former board member of Harbourfront Craft Studios and the Ontario Craft Council.Shelly mentors students in jewellery design as well as contribute to YWCA Women of Distinction, the Big Brothers and Sisters and most recently, Boldly, a charity auction in support of Women’s help line hosted by 18 Karat. Shelly was honoured to have Alexandra Weston of the Weston Family in her studio to co-design an aquamarine and sterling set of Achievement rings representing the importance of family for the Red Door Charity Auction in 2009.
